Why doesn’t snow affect some businesses?

The headlines have been warning us all of snow, the roads have been treacherous, flights have been grounded, there are huge pockets of fog and the latest risk to watch out for is black ice.

It is disrupting travel and it is disrupting business activity.

Even Santa Uses Video Conferencing!

At Questmark we have many customers, with many innovative ways of utilising video conferencing; from health care, to education, to training and interviews!

And one of our favourite, jolliest customers is making use of video all the way from the North Pole!

Considering this very busy time of year, travelling can become a bit of a strain on Santa’s time… With all the global warming, venturing out on to the melting ice is a risk for some of the newer reindeer… and with mince pies in the oven and the delicious smell floating around, Santa really needed to be on time for Mrs Clauses’ breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday!

Santa needed a solution! And at Questmark we were here to help!
We arranged for Santa to meet a lovely group of school children… via video!
He had all their letters to hand and the children got to not only speak to Santa but perform a lovely rendition of Jingle Bells to help all the elves in the workshop build the toys with extra Christmas spirit.

Study: Telemedicine cuts mortality by 45%

A huge new study by the Department of Health into the potential benefits of Telemedicine has had some outstanding early results!

Most notably the early indications show that if used correctly telehealth can deliver a a 45% reduction in mortality rates.

These headline figures have been released ahead of the final conclusions. The Department of Health has said that they “want to share the telehealth headlines now, to help as many people as possible, as early as possible.”

Other findings show that telehealth can deliver a 15% reduction in A&E visits, a 20% reduction in emergency admissions, a 14% reduction in elective admissions, a 14% reduction in bed days and an 8% reduction in tariff costs.

The illnesses and problems that telecare has been improving, is stretching from long term heart problems and diabetes to cutting down on visits to A&E. This trial included over 30,000 patients suffering from a range of diseases and illnesses and is the most thorough study  in this area.

At Questmark we have been working in Telemedicine for years. Our AV magazine award for a telemedicine initiative in Northern Ireland was a huge step in proving that in home treatment is also has huge potential, and in sparsely populated areas, telemedicine is proving to be a huge benefit to families with ill babies.   

Following on from such outstanding results, the department of Health is setting out on a campaign, aiming to use telehealth and telecare to benefit the lives of at least three million people. Their “Three Million lives campaign” following on from this research will be a major focus for the department of health and more information will be released shortly.
